Ballistic Glass Overview and Ratings
Bullet-resistant glass is a specially designed type of safety glass that is primarily used to provide protection against ammunition, explosives and other impacts. Its structure usually consists of multiple layers of glass and interlayer materials (e.g. PVB film) designed to increase impact resistance and effectively disperse the force of an impact. Ballistic glazing is widely used in places such as banks, government buildings, military and police facilities, and high-security residences to protect people from potential attacks and injuries.
Bulletproof Glass Levels and Application Scenarios
Classified according to Chinese national standards (e.g. GB 36543-2018). Common grades are:
Grade B1: Protects against small calibre handgun bullets, such as 9mm handgun bullets, commonly used in bank counters and residential windows.
Grade B2: Protects against medium calibre handgun rounds, such as .44 Magnum, and is used in high security shops and important office areas.
Level B3: Protection against medium-calibre rifle rounds, such as 7.62mm NATO, suitable for high-risk locations such as government buildings and financial institutions.
Class B4: Protection against high power rifle rounds such as 7.62mm API (Armour Piercing), mainly used in military and high security protection required areas.
Currently our products are capable of achieving a B3 rating. Specifically, our products are constructed to provide effective protection against medium calibre rifle rounds. Each layer of glass and PVB film work together to disperse the impact of the ammunition and reduce the risk of penetration. The use of selected first tier, high standard materials also helps to ensure the overall performance and reliability of the glass.
